A Waldorf inspired plaything... a rocker-board can be many things - especially to a child. It is a balance board, a slide, a rocking saddle, a bridge, a tunnel, a balance beam, a stool, a catapult... a rocker-board! It is a natural, solid wood, waldorf inspired, open-ended toy - a simple plaything made by hand - with care.

Our solid wood rocker-boards are made from American Ash lumber - harvested and milled in the Chicago area. Most of the lumber we use comes from ash trees that have been affected by the invasive Emerald Ash Borer. Other trees have fallen due to storms and natural causes.

The lovely wide boards are steam-bent to create the curved shape - there are no glue laminations. Ash happens to be one of the best wood species for bending in this manner - and it is durable and beautiful as well - so it's an all around a happy match. After bending, the boards are shaped and sanded smooth, then finished with two coats of natural tung oil, and a hand rubbed beeswax polish.
